第三部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
What should you think about in trying to find your career(职业)? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any special strong or weak subjects but your records may show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. A knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.
Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at mental work or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills.
If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions, and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.
Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs(拇指) when you handle tools, perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures, it is better to face any weakness than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for example, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead, recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.
56. Which of the following best sums up the first paragraph?
  A. Using school performance to help to choose a career.
  B. The importance of doing well at school.
  C. The importance of being good at all subjects.
  D. The direct value of school work.
57. The writer thinks that for a student to have a part-time job is probably _____.
  A. a waste of time that could have been spent on study
  B. helpful for his future work
  C. a good way to make money
  D. a good way to find out his weak points
58. According to the passage, if a student’s school record is not good, he _____.
  A. will be a complete failure in his future work
  B. will not be able to find a suitable job
  C. will regret not having worked harder at school
  D. may do well in his future work, too

How to Study Smarter, Not Harder
Here are some of our favorite study tips that will help any student study smarter, not harder:
   Recite As You Study
Reciting—saying things out loud should first take place as you read through each paragraph or section. Test yourself. This will help you to understand as well as learn faster because it is more active than reading or listening. It will also help you to notice your mistakes and the topics you have trouble understanding.
   Take Fuller Notes
Notes should be in your own words, brief and clear. They should be tidy and easy to read. Writing notes will help you better than just underlining as you read, since it forces you to rewrite ideas in your own words.
    Study the Middle
The best time to review is soon after you’ve learned something. You are more likely to remember the material at the beginning and the end of the lesson, so make sure you focus on the middle when you review.
    Sleep On It
Study before going to bed, unless you are very tired. It’s easier to remember material you’ve just learned after sleeping than after an equal period of daytime activity, because your brain continues to think even after you’ve fallen asleep.
    Combine Memory and Understanding
There are two ways to remember: by memorizing and by understanding. Multiplication tables, telephone numbers, and math formulas are better learned by rote. Ideas are best learned by understanding.
The more ways you have to think about an idea, the more meaning it will have; the more meaningful the learning, the better you can remember it. Pay attention to similarities in ideas and concepts, and then try to understand how they fit in with things you already know. Never be satisfied with anything less than a completely clear understanding of what you are reading. If you are not able to follow the thought, go back to the place where you first got confused and try again.
60. You can notice your mistakes by _______.
A. saying things out aloud       B. taking notes
C. studying the middle        D. sleeping on it
61. When taking notes, you should _______ to better help you with reading.
A. underline important notes       B. write notes in your own words
C. take down every detail    D. write as quickly as possible
62. The writer advises you to _______ as it is easier for you to remember material.
A. study after a period of activity   B. do some exercise after studying
C. study as soon as you get up   D. study before going to sleep
63. Which of the following is NOT helpful for your understanding?
A. Thinking about an idea in different ways.
B. Relating ideas and concepts with what you already know.
C. Reading from the beginning to the end without stop.
D. Going back to what first made you confused and start again.

C
Why is pink or purple a color for girls and blue or brown for boys?
The answer depends largely on cultural values as well as personal experiences. To the Egyptians, green was a color that represented the hope and joy of spring, while for Muslims, it means heaven. Red is a symbol of good luck in many cultures. In China, children are given money in a red envelope to bring good fortune in the New Year. For many nations, blue is a symbol of protection and religious beliefs. Greek people often wear a blue necklace hoping to protect themselves against evils (灾祸).
People’s choice of colors is also influenced by their bodies’ reactions toward them. Green is said to be the most restful color. It has the ability to reduce pain and relax people both mentally and physically. People who work in green environment have been found to have fewer stomachaches.
Red can cause a person’s blood pressure to rise and increase people’s appetites (食欲). Many decorators will include different shades of red in the restaurant. Similarly, many commercial websites will have a red “Buy Now” button because red is a color that easily catches a person’s eye.
Blue is another calming color. Unlike red, blue can cause people to lose appetite. So if you want to eat less, some suggest that eating from blue plates can help.
The next time you are deciding on what to wear or what color to decorate your room, think about the color carefully.
64. Muslims regard green as a symbol of heaven mainly because of their        .
   A. cultural values                     B. commercial purposes
C. personal experiences               D. physical reactions to the color
65. Why will many commercial websites have a red “Buy Now” button?
A. To relax people physically.
B. To increase people’s appetites.
C. To encourage people to buy the goods.
D. To cause a person’s blood pressure to rise.
66. What color might help lose weight according to the text?[www.shulihua.net]
A. Red               B. Green.          C. Blue.         D. Purple.
67. Which of the following would be the most proper title for the text?
   A. Colors and Human Beings

C. Colors and Personal Experiences
D. The Meaning and Function of Color
                                   D
Many people think that listening is a passive business. It is just the opposite. Listening well is an active exercise of our attention and hard work. It is because they do not realize this, or because they are not willing to do the work, that most people do not listen well.
Listening well also requires total concentration upon someone else. An essential part of listening well is the rule known as ‘bracketing’. Bracketing includes the temporary giving up or setting aside of your own prejudices and desires, to experience as far as possible someone else’s world from the inside, stepping into his or her shoes. Moreover, since listening well involves bracketing, it also involves a temporary acceptance of the other person. Sensing this acceptance, the speaker will seem quite willing to open up the inner part of his or her mind to the listener. True communication is under way and the energy required for listening well is so great that it can be accomplished only by the will to extend oneself for mutual growth.
Most of the time we lack this energy. Even though we may feel in our business dealings or social relationships that we are listening well, what we are usually doing is listening selectively. Often we have a prepared list in mind and wonder, as we listen, how we can achieve certain desired results to get the conversation over as quickly as possible or redirected in ways more satisfactory to us. Many of us are far more interested in talking than in listening, or we simply refuse to listen to what we don’t want to hear.
It wasn’t until toward the end of my doctor career that I have found the knowledge that one is being truly listened to is frequently therapeutic (有疗效的). In about a quarter of the patients I saw, surprising improvement was shown during the first few months of psychotherapy(心理疗法), before any of the roots of problems had been uncovered or explained. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, but chief among them, I believe, was the patient’s sense he or she was being truly listened to, often for the first time in years, and for some, perhaps for the first time ever.
68. The phrase “stepping into his or her shoes” in paragraph 2 probably means _______.
A. preparing a topic list first      B. focusing on one’s own mind
C. directing the talk to the desired results   D. experiencing the speaker’s inside world

第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Do you know how to be street smart? Being street smart means knowing how to keep yourself safe from strangers when you’re alone or with other kids.  71
Most strangers aren’t dangerous and wouldn’t do anything to hurt kids. Unfortunately, though, some strangers can be dangerous, and it’s impossible to tell who’s OK and who’s not.  72  That’s why it’s important to follow these safety rules all the time.
Make your whereabouts knows.
The adult who’s taking care of you needs to know where you are and when you’ll be coming home.
73
It’s more fun and safer to do things with friends. Traveling with a friend whenever you can is a good idea, and traveling with a group of kids is even better.
74
Safe spots are places where you can stop if you need help, like the houses of kids you know, the houses of your parents’ friends, police stations, libraries, and fire departments. When you’re walking or riding your bike, make a mental note of the safe sports along your route. That way, you’ll know where they are in case you ever need one.
75
You’ve probably been told lots of times that you should not yell and keep quiet. But when you think you might be in danger, it’s the perfect time to be noisy! If a stranger approaches you, follows you or tries to grab you, yell as loudly as you can and try to get away. People in the area will hear what’s going on and help you, so make plenty of noise.
A. Stick with a friend.
B. Pick out safe sports.
C. It helps you stay safe.
D. Shout “help” when necessary.
E. Go to school with your friends.
F. Make a lot of noise if you’re scared.
G. A dangerous person doesn’t necessarily look scary.
