第二部分阅读理解(共两节;满分50分)
第一节(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
A
Sales of electric bicycles, or e-bikes, a hot item in consumer green tech, are expected to grow by more than 50% in North America during 2013. Actor William Shatner, who is no stranger to futuristic tech, recently purchased two e-bikes for him and his wife.
I’ve been shopping for an e-bike now for a few weeks, and I’ve had my eye on the folding electric bike. I’ve had folding bikes in the past and love the convenience of being able to throw my bike into my car.
The e–bike market is ready to go mainstream in the U.S. The price for e-bikes has come down greatly in recent months. At one time. Most e-bikes with good components and proper weight were in the $3,000 range. Now you can find reasonable quality c-bikes in the $1,000 range. With gas prices at all-time highs, e-bikes are an attractive, low-cost option to gas efficient vehicles.
E-bike owners are finding that they are great for commuting(每天往返)to work, as  traditional bikes can be a problem with office dress and sweat.
People who use e-bikes range from commuters to casual cyclers who like a little help with hills and wind,to those who decided to save money on buying a motor bike. These are not for the serious road cycler or professional mountain biker.
If you’re considering all e–bike , it pays to do some research first.Cheaper e-bikes are going to be heavier and have less battery.power.Higher priced bikes will be made from lighter materials and have better batteries.
Another consideration is local motor vehicle laws. For example, according to US federal law,as long as your electric bike is under 750 watts and does not go over 20 MPH then it is a bicycle and not a motor vehicle. Most consumer e–bikes in the $1,000 range don’t fit the motorized vehicle description.

A.show that he is wild about the future technology
B.tell us that he is an agent for the e-bike market
C.tell us that actors care only convenience not the price
D.show that c-bikes are really becoming popular now
32.Which of the following may not contribute to the e-bike’s going mainstream?
A.The price for e-bikes has. come down greatly.
B.E-bikes are much cheaper to use than gas vehicles. 来源进步网szjjedu.com
C.The local motor vehicle laws are not strict enough.
D.Some folding e-bikes are convenient to put into a car.
33.According to the text,e–bikes are practical for_______________.
A.serious road cyclers      B.couples spending a holiday
C.people commuting to work  D.professional mountain bikers
34.What is the best title for this passage?
A.E-bike sales to shift into mainstream in 20l3   B.E-bikes,the future way of transportation
C.E-bikes Vs gas vehicles                   D.E-bikes,actors’ first choice

Although his 1-year-old smart-phone still works perfectly, Li Jijia already feels the need to replace it.
“There are many better ones available now. It's time to upgrade(更新)my phone.”
Li's impatience is shared by many. Shortly after the season when new products are released, many consumers feel the urge to upgrade their electronic equipment, even though the ones they have still work just fine.
As consumers' minds are occupied by Apple's newly released products and debate whether the Google tablet is better than the new Amazon Kindle, it might be time to take a step back and ask: “Do we really need the latest upgrades?"
According to Donald Norman, an American author, “planned obsolescence (淘 汰)” is the trick behind the upgrading culture of today's consumer electronics industry.
Electronics producers strategically release new upgrades periodically, both for hardware and software, so that customers on every level feel the need to buy the newest version.
“This is an old-time trick — they're not inventing anything new,” Norman said. “This is a wasteful system through which companies—many of them producing personal electronics — release poor — quality products simply because they know that, in six months or a year, they'll put out a new one.”
But the new psychology of consumers is part of this system , as Norman admitted, “We now want something new ,something pretty, the next shiny thing.” In its most recent year, Apple's profit margin was more than 21 percent. At Hewlett-Packard , the world's biggest PC maker , it was only 7 percent.
Apple's annual upgrades of its products create sales of millions of units as owners of one year's MacBook or iPhone line up to buy the newest version, even when the changes are slight.
As to Li Jijia ,the need for upgrading his smart-phone comes mainly from friends and classmates. When they are switching to the latest equipment, he worries about feeling left out.
“Some games require better hardware to run,” said Li. “If you don't join in, you lose part of the connection to your friends.”
35. What's the author's attitude towards people's greed for new products?
A. Supportive. B. Optimistic. C. Critical. D. Unclear.
36. How do the electronics companies successfully promote their latest products?
A. They make full use of the "planned obsolescence” strategy.
B. They make a fool of customers by recycling their old products.
C. They control the customers' way of thinking while shopping.
D. They invent new products to attract the youth like Li Jij ia.
37. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that Li Jijia feels the need to replace his smart-phone as a result of____.
A. new psychology   B. peer pressure   C. life style    D. friends' expectation

When I was young I wanted to be a model, so when a national contest was staged, I convinced my parents to take me for an audition(试演). I was selected and told I had potential. They said that for only $900 I could attend a weekend event which dozens of the most prestigious(有声望的) modeling agencies from around the world would attend. At 13, my hopes of fame and fortune clouded all judgment and I begged my parents to let me go. We have never been rich, but they saw my enthusiasm and agreed.
I imagined being signed by some famous model companies. For months, any boredom or disappointment I faced was pushed aside because I knew I would soon have the chance to be a real model. I thought I would grace the covers of famous magazines!
Of course, I wasn’t signed, but what hurt the most was being told that if I grew to 5’9”(about 1.75metres) I could be a success. I prayed for a growth spurt (冲刺) because I could not imagine giving up my dream. I made an appointment with a local modeling agency and the agent demanded $500 for classes, $500 for a photo shoot, and $300 for other expenses. My parents only agreed after hours and hours of me begging.
The agency sent me out on a few auditions, but with every day I didn’t receive a call, I grew more depressed. The final straw came in July after I had decided to focus on commercial modeling. There was an open call in New York City. We spent hours driving and another few hours waiting, only to be told that I was too short. I was devastated(感到难以承受的).
Years later, I realized that the trip to New York was good as it made me notice I didn’t actually love modeling, just the idea of it. I wanted to be special and I was innocently determined to reach an impossible goal. The experience has made me stronger and that will help me in the future.
38. What’s the main reason why the author wanted to be a model?
A. She won a national contest.
B. She wanted to get reputation and wealth.
   C. She was urged by some modeling agencies.  来源进步网szjjedu.com
   D. She had full potential to be a successful model.

A. Her parents were strongly against it.        B. She realized that it was impossible for her.
C. Even a local modeling agency turned her down.
D. She realized that she didn’t actually love the idea of modeling.
40. The underlined phrase “The final straw” probably means ______.
A. the last in a series of bad things that happen to make someone very upset, angry, etc
B. the final result that she was admitted by the model company
C. the final audition given by the agency
D. the decision that she made at last not to be a model any more
41. What did the author learn from her experience of struggling to be a model?
A. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
B. Being a model is not that easy.
C. We should have our own judgment and should not just follow others.
D. We might set unpractical goals but the experiences can help us grow.

The Rolls Royce logo consisting of the two Rs clearly stands for Rolls and Royce, the two founders of this car manufacturing company.
In 1884 Frederick Henry Royce started an electrical and mechanical business. He made his first car, a “Royce”, in his Manchester factory in 1904. He was introduced to Charles Steward Rolls in a Manchester hotel on May 4 that year, and the pair agreed a deal where Royce would manufacture cars, to be sold by Rolls. A clause (条款) was added to the contract, saying the cars would be called “Rolls Royce”.
The current Toyota logo consists of three ovals: the two perpendicular (成直角的) ovals represent a relationship of trust between the customer and Toyota. These ovals combine to symbolize the letter “T” for Toyota. The space in the background implies a global expansion of Toyota’s technology and unlimited potential for the future.
The Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) is a South Korean company manufacturing automobiles. Their automobiles are available in many countries around the globe. In 2003 it was South Korea’s largest car maker and the world’s seventh largest car maker. The Hyundai logo appears to be an H (symbolizing Hyundai). The oval shape indicates the company’s global expansion and the “H” is symbolic of two people (specifically the company and customer) shaking hands.
The Mercedes-Benz logo represents one of the most famous brands in the world. The Benz logo is a three-pointed star that represents its domination of the land, the sea, and the air. The famous three-pointed star was designed by Gottlieb Daimler to show the ability of his motor for land, air and sea usage. It was first seen on a Daimler in 1909 and was combined with the Benz laurel wreath (桂冠) in 1926 to symbolize the union of the two firms. Mercedes-Benz is one of the world’s oldest automobile manufacturers.

Michael, Rae, Jequita, Alice, Sarah and Phyllis have at least one thing in common: They all love animals so much that they’re driven to volunteer regularly at the Romulus Animal Shelter.
The six Romulus-area residents give as much time as they can to perform various tasks at the shelter, help make life more comfortable for the dogs and cats that stay there and do their best to find permanent homes for the stray(流浪)pets.
The shelter, at 12300 Wayne Road, opened in June 2011 and operates on money raised in the community. To date, bingos and other fundraising activities have brought in more than $177.000,according to community leader William Wadsworth, but a tight budget requires the efforts of volunteers to make ends meet.
“Without their help, this building would not be an outstanding place,”Wadsworth said.“Their time and devotion is beyond what I ever expected. And I thank them all.”
The volunteers work at the direction of two animal control officers, Annie Hall and Kim Ratcliff, who spend much of their day patrolling(巡逻)the city and housing stray dogs and cats. The two, both with 32 years of experience, count on the public to be the eyes and cars of the shelter. They are also responsible for addressing complaints and taking care of the shelter.
That’s where the volunteers come in. They take photos of the animals and post them on Facebook and other websites for adoption. They clean cages, play with the animals, feed and bathe the pets and take the dogs for walks. They pick up supplies and even clean the restrooms.
“We couldn’t do it without them,” said Ratcliff. “They come in and go right to work. We depend on them a lot. They help run the place,” added Hall.

But now Mayer, 37, is trading in (跳槽)her executive title at Google to be the new CEO of Yahoo, it was widely announced on July 16, 2012. Here are four things to know about Yahoo's new leader.

If Google is your homepage, you're familiar with its clean-cut style and simple color scheme—just like Mayer's home. "People used to come over to my apartment and say, ‘Does your apartment look like Google or does Google look like your apartment?" She told The New York Times. "I can't say it clearly anymore. I really love color. I'm not very clattery. My place has very clean simple lines. That has always appealed to me.”
4 _______________
Ready to take on yet another important role, Mayer, who married financier Zachary Bogue in 2009, tweeted (写博文)out yet another announcement the same day word broke of her move
